Transcription: In 1819, House members returned to the Capitol and took up quarters in the new hall of the House, now called Statuary Hall. They remained in this room for 38 years until 1857. Due to poor acoustics, many members insisted that a new room be built. They blamed the acoustics for confusion on the House floor during Civil War debates.
